Jacques Laurent's
Restaurant Reviews
The Royale
Bar is one of the best,
upscale cocktail lounges in San
Francisco. Located on upper Grant
Avenue in the heart of North
Beach, though small in size,
their definitive feel of
comfortable luxury sets this "North
Beach Bar" apart. Their
ambiance centers around plush,
pale lavender velvet benches, a
mahogany bar, small dance floor
and live D.J. music playing
upbeat, contemporary sounds
designed for dancing and
socializing. Popular with a young
crowd, this is a favorite before
and after dinner destination for
cocktails. They make a masterful
martini and offer a full bar,
with an accent on mixed drinks,
scotch & vodka. A "cool,
hip bar, where everyone comes to
play". (Bay Guardian,
December 2001). During the North
Beach Jazz Festival, the Royale
hires bands to play cool, classic
jazz. It is a special feeling to
be walking down the narrow street
and hear the riffs of "Round
Midnight" filtering through
the night. The Royal brings back
memories of the North Beach in
the 1950's, when everyone was
"hip" and jazz was
"cool".
Throughout the
year they sponsor special
celebrations and wine tastings.
The Royale is also available for
private parties for up to 60.
